Becoming A Member Of Gateway Community Credit Union Is Easy

Requirements To Join Gateway Community Credit Union

Anyone can join who meets at least one of the following criteria:

  • Live, work, or worship in Missoula County

  • Is serviced by Missoula Electric Co-Op or Blackfoot Telephone Company

  • Has immediate family who are eligible to be members of our Credit Union

$5.00 deposited into a savings account makes you a member/owner of Gateway Community.

Switching To Gateway Is Easy

Getting Started:

  • Visit one of our three convenient branch locations to open a savings account, FREE checking account, and/or any of the other great accounts we offer at Gateway Community FCU.

  • You can download our membership application here, just fill it out and bring it with you to a branch location nearest you.

  • All you need to start is $5.00 and a valid picture ID.

  • One of our friendly and experienced Gateway staff members will help you open your account and customize it for your needs and expectations.

  • Once you open your account, you will recive your checks and/or VISA debit/ATM card in the mail in approximately 10 buisness days, then you can begin using your Gateway Community FCU checks and VISA debit/ATM card.


Move Transactions:

  • Inform your employer to change your direct deposit. They may need a voided check and/or a deposit slip from your new account, or click here to download a form.  If you do not currently have direct deposit, check with your employer to see if they offer it--if they do, you can use your employer's form, or click here to use our form.

  • If you have Social Security or other US government direct deposit, click here to take you to the Go Direct website.  Follow the steps listed to change your current direct deposit to Gateway Community FCU--or--if you don't currently have direct deposit for you Social Security, this website can help you get that set-up.  If you have any problems, come on by or give us a call and one of our knowledgable member service representatives can help you.

  • Contact anyone else who makes a deposit to your accounts. This could be retirement, pension, or other funds. They may require their own form, or you can use ours.

  • Inform anyone who makes withdrawals from your accounts that you have switched.  Click here to download a form that may be used to gets these switched.

  • If you use other institutions forms to move these transactions, they will generally need an account number (contact a member service representative if you do not have that) and our routing number--292177864.

Checklist Of Possible Contacts:

  • Insurance Company

  • Other bank/finance companies

  • Cell phone company

  • Cable company

Finally, Close Your Old Account:

  • Ask your former institution to close your account and send you a check for the balance after all the transactions have cleared. They may require something in writing to do this--click here for a form you can dowload, fill out, print then send them.

    Things To Remember:

    • Shred or destroy your old checks, ATM/debit card etc. from your old account--if you bring them by one of our branches, we would be happy to shred those for you.

    • Let outstanding checks and payments clear your old account before closing it; this may take several weeks.

    • Feel free to contact any of our membership representatives at any time if you need any information.
